Whereforto Ye Wanderers

Whereforto Ye Wanderers.

i am the misplaced piece of furniture in your kitchen
the warped perpetrator of stubbed toes
the almost sturdy bit of balance when you’re stumbling
drunk and splintered like the bottoms of my legs;

smeared with ash and purple jelly and
reeking of stuttering lumber and stale cologne,
i am the alternate salvation
the easy freedom
the sanctuary of sinners finding altar
in stained cloths, burned fibers frayed
knees knobbing the tile

i am unkept, unkempt
i have knots and snipped strings
i am misplaced end and in between table and
a grimy bulb of light
i have soft palms and disheveled eyelashes
the unlevel injurer
unstable lifter

i am everything and nothing
as nights and days and middles
fumble for my name
