(i don't know how i feel about this yet)

I watch you wince
with your hand on a creaky jaw
eroding with constant release
of sweaty tell-nothings
spitting rust water
infecting child slides and swings
There’s dirty gum on your hands
chewed up and stretched out
and I got stuck
sticky residue
I got stuck
in your american
in your sticky, rusty, americanothing
Sometimes people tell me
to leave
jump on over the border
but you belong here
It’s true that I was born with
the rush to climb up ladder rungs
but you were built for destruction
like the kind spread across seas
of poverty
like the kind sucking the marrow
out of family bones
when holidays become turn-aways
and blood loses to water
paint thinner
and bitter wheat bottles
you were made to infiltrate hearts
with rocks, spoons, and speed
to decay relationships
and community into rows
of prisons and broken homes
with the windows busted
and doors boarded up
and you say you’re trying to fix the
mess you made
whispering sweet nothings
pretty slogans on the sidewalks
bulldozers on the block
pushing people out
for pricey new boxes with
pools in the backyard
and your gentrification makes
you a creep
prowling on the masses
sleeping on the street
step 1, step 2, step 3
is to repeat
for paper and pennies
in the all the right, bulging pockets
snapping up into bailout lockets
hanging light on freddie and fannie
their chains sinking to the floor
around the necks and feet of
basement bodies
the poor people stuck
in sticky
rusting
spit extracted from
your dirty gum
don’t deny
it’s red right there
on your fingertips.
